PREMIER SAYS THE 2011-2012 POLICE REFORM DESTROYED INSTITUTE OF COMMUNITY POLICE OFFICER

20 january, 2020

The notorious reform of police from 2011-2012 has completely destroyed the institute of community police officer, which should be rehabilitated, stated Prime Minister Ion Chicu after the weekly meeting with President Igor Dodon and Speaker of the Parliament Zinaida Greceanii on Monday.

“Since 2019, the institute of community police officer has been sustainably destroyed. We have no more police officers that would closely communicate with citizens, especially the young people, who remained in care of their grandparents as their parents left for work abroad. School already plays no role of educator, thus the young people remained without attention and community support”, he said.

According to the premier, due to the liquidation of the institute of community police officer, the authorities lost direct contact with citizens, while people from localities do not know who to address in case of problems.

“Territorial police officer will be reinstated in each locality and will have to know everything about residents, their activities and intentions, especially in case of youth. We will considerably raise salaries to attract people to these posts, as today there is one police officer per four villages”, he said.

Chicu said that it is impossible to ensure positive dynamic in the field of crime combating without preventive measures.
