This past weekend, 273 instances of COVID-19 infection were registered in Moldova, and 6 people died, reported to the Crisis Unit.

According to its official data, last Saturday Moldovan laboratories analyzed 681 test samples, of which 161 appeared to be positive. Eleven of these infection cases were brought by Moldova citizens who had returned home from abroad, and the rest 150 were infections that occurred inside the republic. On the Friday/Saturday night and on Saturday, three deaths were registered – of a 27-year-old woman from Tiraspol and two women from Chisinau aged 65 and 57.

President Igor Dodon reported on Sunday evening that 349 tests were analyzed on April 5, of which 112 were positive namely 8 citizens of Moldova who returned from abroad and 104 instances of domestic infection. Thus, the coronavirus incidence has reached 864 people in Moldova. Three deaths occurred on Sunday, bringing the total mortality rate to 15 persons.

Out of the total number of infected citizens, 293 are residents of Chisinau, 132 – of the Stefan Voda Raion, 126 – of Soroca town, and 47 – of the Transnistrian region.

“Unfortunately, the number of infected people is growing. This means that we have to prepare to the 4th scenario, which presupposes more than one thousand infected people. This scenario stipulates that we must engage several more hospitals for the anti-virus struggle and mobilize all medical workers to the disease treatment process”, stated the President.

In his words, out of the 864 infected persons, 240 are health sector employees.

“This is very much indeed. We are preparing to start taking analyses from all medical workers. We have a necessary number of tests for this, and we are expecting the soon arrival of a large consignment of tests from China”, said President Dodon.
