FORMER DEPUTY SPEAKER LILIANA PALIHOVICI APPOINTED AS OSCE SPECIAL REPRESENTATIVE ON GENDER QUESTIONS

The former Deputy Chairperson of the Moldovan Parliament, Liliana Palihovici, has been appointed as Special Representative of the Swedish OSCE Presidency on gender questions.

She received this appointment at the beginning of 2021, when the OSCE Presidency went to Sweden.

Liliana Palihovici is the Director of the Institutum Virtutes Civilis in Chisinau, and she works to promote participatory democracy, the policy of human rights protection and gender equality, reasonable governance and civil society development.

In 2007-2017, Palihovici was Deputy Chairperson of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDPM), and in 2010-2017 she was a Member of the Moldovan Parliament from the LDPM and a Deputy Speaker. Despite the pressure put on her by the leadership of the formerly ruling Democratic Party and personally by oligarch Vladimir Plahotniuc, she refused to leave the Liberal Democratic Party, but in 2017 she preferred to resign from the Parliament.
