TIRASPOL ASKS CHISINAU TO LET TRANSNISTRIAN CARS TRAVEL ABROAD

05 octomber, 2015

The official Tiraspol has requested Chisinau to impose a moratorium on its ban on motor vehicles with Transnistrian license plates to travel abroad – at least until completion of negotiations on settling this problem.

This request was made by the Transnistrian side once again at the Friday’s meeting of the Chisinau and Tiraspol expert groups on transport and roads that was held in the Bendery Office of the OSCE Mission to Moldova.

The Moldovan side promised to convey this request to higher authorities. From their part, the Moldovan delegation raised the question of motor vehicles traveling in the Transnistrian region that are registered with foreign countries and use the international insurance policy Green Card.

About a month ago, Moldova’s Political Representative at the Transnistria negotiations, Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Affairs Victor Osipov said that all this is not a new ban on foreign traveling for Transnistrian cars with Transnistrian plates – this is a return to the previous normal situation of observing international norms.

“This has always been so, for there are international conventions, which Moldova has been part to. In December 2010, we made an exception for two weeks to let Transnistrian cars go abroad for New Year and Christmas. But that decision, taken for 2 weeks, continued working until August 2015. Why that happened so is a separate topic. In August that decision was cancelled”, said Osipov then.
