​EU FINANCES REPAIR OF POLICLINIC IN TRANSNISTRIAN TOWN

The European Union has funded the repair of a policlinic in the Transnistrian town of Dnestrovsk that has a population of over 20 thousand.

Within the framework of the program of trust-building measures between the two Dniester River sides, realized here by the United Nations Development Program, the European Union has furnished more than 140 thousand euros for the repair.

Now, with new roofing and new systems of heating, water supply and sewage, the institution has come to have proper conditions for rendering services to the residents of Dnestrovsk and nearby villages.

Ambassador Pirkka Tapiola, Head of the European Union Delegation to the Republic of Moldova, stated he is proud of the joint achievements.

“Together with the United Nations and our Swiss partners, we have undertaken to modernize the public health system on both sides of the Dniester and to consolidate the cooperation of health workers. This is important for improving the quality of medical services. The European Union will be further promoting the consolidation of such ties for patients’ good”, said Pirkka Tapiola.

The United Nations Resident Coordinator, UNDR Resident Representative to Moldova Dafina Gercheva said that with the European Union’s financial assistance, twenty objects of social infrastructure are being repaired.

Nune Mangasaryan, UNICEF Representative in Moldova, said that medical equipment has been provided also for the Sanitary-Epidemiological Center in Tiraspol and to 140 other health facilities rendering services to 44 populated areas.

The reconstruction of the Dnestrovsk policlinic is one of many projects being implemented in Transnistria with the financial assistance of the European Union and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) in partnership with the UNDP, the World Health Organization and the UNICEF.

In 2012-2015, thanks to their efforts, three perinatal centers were repaired in Transnistria, 5 were provided with state-of-the-art equipment, and medical staff was trained. Also, an emergency station was repaired in Bendery city.
