​MORTALITY RATE IN TRANSNISTRIA IS 1.5-FOLD HIGHER THAN BIRTH RATE

The natural population loss in Transnistria accounted for 1470 people in January-August, growing 1.2% against the equivalent period of 2015.

According to the region’s statistics service, the number of new-born fell by 7.2% – to 3099, while the number of deaths – almost by 1.5 times – to 4569 (-4.6%). Among the deceased – 19 babies aged under one year.

Most of people in Transnistria died of heart disease – 1517 people – one-third of all the deceased. Then come tumors – 845 (+4.8%) and vascular cerebral lesions – 703 (+5.8%).

As for the migration loss of population, 898 people came to Transnistria for permanent residence over 8 months, while 1873 people – twice more – emigrated.

It is interesting that the service does not publish data about the total number of population. According to preliminary data of the 2015 census, there were 475.7 thousand people living in Transnistria, which is 79.7 thousand or 14.3% less than the 2004 census.
