TRANSNISTRIAN PRESIDENTIAL OFFICE TO BE OPENED IN MOSCOW

13 january, 2017

A “Permanent Representation of the President of the Transnistrian Moldovan Republic at the Russian Federation” will be opened in Moscow soon, president Vadim Krasnoselsky announced at the Thursday’s meeting of the consultative assembly of first Transnistrian deputies.

In his words, the office is already undergoing an official registration procedure in Moscow. It will be headed by Alexander Caraman, Transnistria’s former vice-president.

Krasnoselsky said the Representation will be working in several directions: interaction with the Russian State Duma [parliament] and other organs of state power as well as with civil society organizations; free legal and consultative assistance for Transnistria citizens staying in Russia temporarily or permanently, and other.

Transnistria already opened such office in Moscow once. It functioned in 2006-2011 under President Igor Smirnov, but was closed down after a scandal that broke out when president Smirnov’s son had opened an office of his company on the Representation’s premises, and after it had been established that Smirnov Jr. had a relation to stealing money from the Russian humanitarian assistance provided to Transnistria.
