GAGAUZIA CONDEMNS UNIONIST IDEAS PROMOTED IN MOLDOVA

26 february, 2018

The council of all-level deputies and Gagauzia most active members gathered in Tomai past Saturday and condemned the ideas on Unionism [the adherence to the idea of Unire – Moldova’s unification with Romania], promoted in Moldova by certain political formations.

According to the gagauzinfo.md portal, in total over 1 thousand people participated in the work of the public forum, aimed at elaborating measures on counteracting the Unionism and at condemning the reduction of Gagauzia’s powers.

Gagauzia Bashkan [governor] Irina Vlah said that Gagauzia has to repulse the anti-state forces, which stand for Moldova’s unification with Romania, saying that the first gathering of people on organizing the 2014 referendum has also been conducted in Tomai.

“Back then we also faced resistance. However, the referendum led to transformations that exist in Gagauzia today. Many regions of the country are envious about our growing economy. However, unionist movements are again enhancing their activities in the republic, declarations on unification with Romania are being adopted. The today’s sitting should confirm that we are interested in strengthening Moldova statehood. I am sure that a strong Gagauzia is possible only in a strong Moldova”, she said.

Gagauzia Popular Assembly (GPA) Chairman Vladimir Kyssa reminded that the idea of unifying Moldova and Romania appeared not today. Back at the end of 1980s, Unionists under the flag of the Popular Front adopted the declaration of unification with Romania, but back then this initiative was not promoted because of Transnistria and Gagauzia.

Former Gagauzia Bashkan Dmitry Croitor addressed to forces, who want to deprive Moldova of statehood.

“Moldova is not only your motherland, but ours also. Depriving it of any perspective, you should consult us”, he said.

Democrat MP Nicolai Dudoglo called on the sitting participants to unity, saying that activists of the movement “New Gagauzia”, headed by him, raised 10 thousand signatures against the unionism and refuted the rumors about his supporters’ intentions to organize provocations at the sitting.

Another Democrat MP Corneliu Dudnic informed about the intention to develop a draft law on prohibiting political parties, which promote the idea of unionism.

“If Unirea happens, I will be the first to take a submachine and will go defending Gagauzia”, he said.

Former GPA head Dmitry Konstantinov criticized the school discipline “History of Romanians”.

“We do not know how to explain to our children and grandchildren why we are studying not our history, but the history of Romanians”, he said.

GPA Deputy Chairman Alexander Suhodolsky called Unionists “Satanists”.

“They are dancing horas, they have support in the Romanian Parliament. A conference will be held in Chisinau, where the Russian aggression will be discussed, but the central authorities do not want to discuss the Romanian threat”, he said.
