CHISINAU SAYS PROBLEM OF MOLDOVAN SCHOOLS IN TRANSNISTRIA HAS BEEN SOLVED ONLY PARTLY

04 octomber, 2018

The Republic of Moldova will be insisting on preserving the question of the Latin-script Moldova-administered schools in Transnistria on the agenda of the 5+2 negotiation format - until a final resolution of the school dispute, Moldova's Special Representative for Transnistria negotiations, Deputy Prime Minister for Country Reintegration Cristina Lesnic stated here on Wednesday during her meeting with President Putin's Special Envoy at the Transnistria negotiations, Russian Foreign Ministry Ambassador-at-Large Sergey Gubarev.

Discussing the results of Sergey Gubarev's visit to Chisinau and Tiraspol, Cristina Lesnic once again drew his attention to how Tiraspol is continuing to put obstacles to the movement of the pupils, their parents and teachers from these schools. She stressed the need to put up this question for discussion at international platforms "because the Transnistrian side is violating the citizens' fundamental right to free movement".

Cristina Lesnic believes that some other provisions in the Protocol Decision of November 25, 2017 have been fulfilled only partly. For instance, the Transnistrian government has not lowered utility tariffs for the said Moldovan schools in the region. These tariffs are considerably higher than the ones paid by all the rest Transnistrian educational institutions, and the Moldovan schools have not yet received into their ownership the land plots they are standing on, as was promised by Tiraspol. The interlocutors discussed the Sides' interaction in the telecommunications field, the Transnistrian motor vehicles' access to the international road traffic, and possibilities of the organization of a new 5+2 format meeting.

Sergey Gubarev said he would return to Moldova yet before the end of this year to continue negotiations on the free movement question.
