07 december, 2018

A delegation from the United States led by the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs George Kent visited Tiraspol on Thursday to learn more about Transnistria's position on a number of essential questions.

The delegation was received by Transnistria president Vadim Krasnoselsky, who highlighted the United States' participation as an observer in the 5+2 negotiating format and the constructiveness of bilateral relations as a whole, reported the Transnistrian mass media.

"Your opinion presents interest to us. We all are stakeholders in the 5+2 negotiating format, and the realization of reached accords depends on the words and guarantees of each of us. This is the chief thing. But accords have to be proved by deeds. Such is our common task", said Vadim Krasnoselsky.

The interlocutors discussed various aspects of the bilateral cooperation, including the realization of cultural and humanitarian projects in Transnistria. They exchanged opinions on essential questions of the negotiation agenda, and agreed to continue their active interaction.

Krasnoselsky said that Transnistrians show interest to the history, traditions and culture of various countries and peoples, so the local residents are traditionally showing a big inspiration towards the ongoing American Films Week, in whose frame they can watch mostly classical masterpieces of the American cinema industry.

Vadim Krasnoselsky underscored the development of the American Culture Center functioning under the auspices of Transnistria University.

The recently appointed new United States Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Moldova, Derek Hogan, remarked it was his first visit to Tiraspol, but he is counting on further active interaction between the United States Embassy in Chisinau and the Transnistrian side. In his words, a systemic dialog has been established between the U.S. Embassy and the Transnistrian ministry of foreign affairs.
