TRANSNISTRIA PROMISES TO LET PASS VEHICLES WITH MOLDOVAN INSURANCE FROM MAY 1

11 april, 2019

The law “on compulsory civil liability insurance of owners of motor vehicles” enters into force in Transnistria on May 1. The law provides for “civil liability of owners of motor vehicles, registered in foreign countries, entering and (or) moving through the territory of the unrecognized Transnistrian Moldovan Republic (PMR), must be insured and confirmed”.

According to the Transnistrian Central Bank (TCB) website, the supporting document can be the insurance policy Green card with the territory of insurance coverage of PMR or compulsory civil liability motor-vehicle insurance agreement – insurance policy OSAGO PMR.

The law covers owners of motor vehicles located and (or) entering the territory of the region, aimed at “protecting the victim’s right to a compensation for damage caused to their life, health or property”.

Authorized employees of the ministry of state security will establish control over the availability of the insurance at the checkpoints across the Transnistrian state border, while the absence of the insurance policy will prevent further movement of the vehicle until the conclusion of the relevant insurance agreement.

Officers of the state automobile inspection department of the Transnistrian interior ministry will exercise control over the movement on through the region. A motorist who has no insurance policy faces administrative responsibility.

The adopted amendments do not apply to Moldova citizens who pass through Transnistria by private transport. For unhindered entry and movement through Transnistria, one just has to have a compulsory civil liability motor-vehicle insurance agreement – insurance policy OSAGO of Moldova.
