UKRAINIAN REPRESENTATIVE AT TRANSNISTRIA NEGOTIATIONS BLAMES RUSSIA FOR IMPEDING CONFLICT SETTLEMENT

Ukraine’s Special Representative for Transnistrian conflict settlement questions Viktor Kryzhanovskii believes that Russia is impeding the settlement.

The diplomat stated to the Ukrainian mass media: “The Russian Federation is not interested in a lasting settlement of the Transnistrian conflict and is taking all possible measures to drag out this process. Last few years, only the semblance of a progress has been made, but in the reality, there is no progress in the political settlement of this protracted conflict”.

“It is essential for Russia to preserve a seat of tension and danger in that region. By preserving the seat, Russia is impeding a normal development of the region. It is obvious that Moscow is disinterested in somebody’s development faster and better than Russia’s because this would be to the detriment of the Russian Federation”, said Viktor Kryzhanovskii.

In his words, Ukraine is doing its utmost to help settle the situation, including by creating joint control stations on the Moldova-Ukraine border, thus blocking drug and arms trafficking.
