MOLDOVAN AND GERMAN OFFICIALS DISCUSS TRANSNISTRIAN PROBLEM

16 octomber, 2019

The current situation of the Transnistrian conflict settlement process and Chisinau's vision of the way to settling topical agenda questions were discussed in Chisinau on Tuesday between Moldova's Special Representative for Transnistria negotiations, Deputy Prime Minister for Country Reintegration Vasile Sova and Michael Siebert, Director for Eastern Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia of the Federal Foreign Office of Germany.

Sova offered an opinion that in parallel with realization of commitments taken within the Berlin+ Package, it is necessary to attach more attention to raising the efficiency of the 5+2 negotiating format, including inter alia through discussing settlement model parameters and formalization of the general position of the Mediators and Observers on the support of a sustainable solution with a due respect for the Republic of Moldova's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The interlocutors exchanged opinions and ideas about the organization of a new conference in Bavaria (scheduled for November) on confidence-building measures in the process of resolving the Transnistrian conflict.
