DODON AND KRASNOSELSKY BELIEVE THERE IS NO ALTERNATIVE TO DIALOG AND CONFIDENCE BETWEEN SIDES

Moldova President Igor Dodon and Transnistria president Vadim Krasnoselsky share the opinion that there is no alternative to dialog and to building confidence between the conflict sides. Such was the conclusion the interlocutors arrived at during their meeting held on Tuesday.

Igor Dodon wrote on his Facebook page afterwards: “We have emphasized once again that there exists no alternative to dialog and consolidation of trust, which open possibilities to discuss more complicated questions on the agenda of the Transnistrian conflict settlement process”.

Dodon wrote that the parties continued their discussion of current questions on the agenda and outlined some topics for the future.

“We pointed out that the situation, which has developed in the Transnistrian settlement process, requires from both sides to maintain continuous dialog and thoroughly scrutinize the issues standing on the negotiation agenda. We discussed also a number of other questions of the economic and social character touching on the interests of the residents and economic operators on both sides of the Dniester River, including the ones pertaining to broadening of the regime of free movement of persons, goods and services across the entire Republic of Moldova territory. We have approximated our positions for working out approaches to their subsequent realization”, wrote Igor Dodon.

The Moldovan President reported that the interlocutors discussed also some results of the recent Bratislava round of the 5+2 format negotiations and the implementation of accords known as Berlin+ Package, and exchanged opinions on the practical steps being made for implementation of the reached accords.

According to the Moldovan President, in the run-up to the Bavaria Conference, scheduled for November 4-5, “we confirmed readiness to continue our open dialog at various levels and platforms that would promote the consolidation of trust between the residents of both Dniester River banks”.

“We highlighted our common interest to prevent complications in the Transnistria Security Zone, which could upset peace and stability in the Republic of Moldova. We reaffirmed the importance of the ongoing peacekeeping operation on the Dniester River as a guarantee of peace and security in region”, wrote President Dodon.

The meeting, which was held in the countryside presidential residence of Holercani, in a picturesque locality on the right Dniester River bank, lasted several hours. Journalists were not admitted into the residence territory, and the participants did not make any statements for the press, having issued only short reports in the social networks and press releases.
