GAGAUZIA GOVERNOR AND AMBASSADOR OF JAPAN DISCUSS ECONOMIC COOPERATION

Irina Vlah, Bashkan [governor] of the southern Moldovan autonomous region of Gagauzia, and the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Moldova, Yoshihiro Katayama, met in Chisinau on Wednesday and discussed economic cooperation possibilities.

The interlocutors analyzed the results of the Moldova-Japan business forum held in May in an online regime. The Gagauzia autonomy was also represented at that forum. Ambassador Katayama pointed out that the forum permitted to disclose Gagauzia’s potential for Japanese people of business.

According to the Gagauzia Executive Committee [government] press release, the interlocutors pointed out the efficiency of the sides’ interaction last few years. With Japan’s assistance, social projects were implemented in Gagauzia educational institutions lately.

Irina Vlah said that the Gagauzia authorities collaborated with the Embassy of Japan in Moldova on economic issues. As a result, an investment project was realized in the autonomy, and new jobs appeared.

The Bashkan said that Gagauzia is interested to continue its cooperation with Japan.

“The Gagauzia autonomy is considering the possibility of participation in the Program of modernization of agriculture and of farm equipment, being implemented by the Japanese side on crediting terms. Gagauzia has applied for obtaining financing with the Kusanone Program to purchase up-to-date medical equipment and to re-construct a sportive center.
