REINTEGRATION COMMISSION DISCUSSES SITUATION WITH TRANSNISTRIAN SETTLEMENT

20 august, 2020

The Government Commission for Reintegration has examined yesterday the situation with the Transnistrian settlement: the situation in the Security Zone (SZ), the restoration of telephone communications between the two banks of the Nistru River, and a number of other topics.

As reintegration bureau said, information on the topics was provided by the Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Cristina Lesnic. She reported on the impact of the pandemic on the interaction between Chisinau and Tiraspol and the efforts to unblock the free movement of people in the SZ.

The result of communication with the Transnistrian side was the success in the reduction of the number of illegal posts from 37 to 15. However, traffic on four roads remains blocked, which prevents the movement of the population.

“Access through other arteries, such as the ferry service operated by Bac Molovata, is difficult due to the large number of people and transport. In addition to amplification of work hours and additional routs, alternative solutions are needed,” she said.

Lesnic noted the positive dynamics with registration of Moldovan citizens who draw up documents in accordance with the legislation of the Republic of Moldova in the State Register of Population. Fifteen thousand of driver's licenses of Transnistrian residents were replaced with Moldovan-type ones. The number of registered vehicles from the region with neutral license plates has reached 4070.

As for telecommunications, to ensure mutual connection, "the implementation of the protocol solution was delayed due to the problems that arose."

On the eve of the start of the new academic year, the participants discussed the need to create conditions for free access of students and teachers to schools with teaching in Romanian in the region.
