US AMBASSADOR THINKS PANDEMIC IS ONE OF REASONS FOR DECELERATION OF TRANSNISTRIAN TALKS

09 september, 2020

One of the reasons for the slowdown in the negotiation process on the Transnistrian settlement is the coronavirus pandemic, said the US Ambassador to the Republic of Moldova Derek Hogan.

As is reported at the website of the Tiraspol leader Vadim Krasnoselsky's administration, he said this on Tuesday at a meeting with the head of Transnistria in Tiraspol, discussing the course of negotiations between Chisinau and Tiraspol.

Krasnoselsky pointed on "the stagnation of the negotiation process, the failure of the Moldovan side to comply with the agreements reached, the unilateral withdrawal of Moldova from the operation of vehicle registration points (for obtaining neutral number plates), cases of libel against the Transnistrian side (for example, on topics related to the pandemic)."

He confirmed that "the placement of COVID posts is an induced measure of an exclusively humanitarian nature, aimed at preventing the import of the virus, and as soon as the epidemiological situation in both republics stabilizes, they will be removed."
