CAR OWNERS FROM TRANSNISTRIA TO BE ABLE TO RECEIVE NEUTRAL LICENSE PLATES FOR TWO YEARS MORE

11 september, 2020

Transnistrian drivers will be able to receive neutral license plates for their cars for two years more. This is provided for by the amendments to the legislation, adopted on the eve by the parliament in the first reading after heated discussions.

According to them, the registration of cars and the issuance of neutral plates to them are extended until September 1, 2022. Thus, the owners of such cars have the opportunity to participate in international road traffic.

In accordance with the agreement on the participation of Transnistrian cars in international traffic, from September 1, 2018 in Tiraspol and Rybnitsa, points for registration of vehicles (PRV) have been opened. Thus, cars registered in Transnistria were able to travel abroad with neutral license plates and a sticker on the glass with the letters MD. The agreement applies exclusively to private transport, and not to vehicles carrying out transportation on a commercial basis.

Since then, PRVs have issued about 4 thousand neutral registration numbers. However, since the expiration of the law in early September, the representatives of Moldova were recalled and the points suspended their activities, which drew criticism from the authorities of the region. In addition, they require license plates to be issued to trucks and also the recognition of Transnistrian driving licenses.
