JCC SESSION UPSET AGAIN DUE TO SAME DISCORDS OVER AGENDA

23 octomber, 2020

The October 22 scheduled weekly working meeting of the Joint Control Commission (JCC, the supervisory body for the Joint Peacekeeping Forces) failed to be held once again because the Chisinau and Tiraspol delegations failed to achieve a consensus over its agenda.

According to Moldova’s National Bureau for Country Reintegration, the Moldovan delegation keeps insisting on considering the problems remaining in the Transnistria Security Zone such as the unfolding by Tiraspol of its illegitimate border posts, restriction of the freedom of movement of persons and motor vehicles, kidnapping of Moldova citizens etc.

But the Tiraspol delegation firmly believes that these questions stand beyond the scope of JCC’s competence. Delegation leader Oleg Belyakov reminded that in the previous period, there were more than 20 instances of kidnapping of Transnistria citizens by the Moldovan law enforcement, “but in those cases Moldovan representatives were refusing to discuss those incidents within the JCC frame”.

After several hours of a heated debating, the Russian JCC delegation, which chaired at the session, suggested postponing it.
