JCC MEETING AGAIN FAILS TO TAKE PLACE DUE TO CHRONIC LACK OF CONSENSUS

20 november, 2020

The past Thursday’s ordinary working meeting of the Joint Control Commission (JCC, the supervisory body for the Joint Peacekeeping Forces) failed to be held due to a lack of consensus between the sides, who once again could not agree upon agenda.

Moldova’s National Bureau for Country Reintegration reported on Friday that the Moldovan delegation to the JCC wanted to negotiate the unfolding by Tiraspol of “unlawful control posts in the Security Zone” and the Transnistrian side’s abuses with regard to Moldova citizens.

The Transnistrian delegation, for its part, laid responsibility for upsetting the working meeting on the Moldovan colleagues “who did not wish to include the question on the incidents, which took place in the Security Zone on the Moldovan parliamentary election days of November 1 and November 15, when Moldovan combatants and certain known Chisinau politicians tried to restrict Transnistria residents’ access to polling stations and staged provocations, particularly at the entry to [the Moldovan village of] Varnita”.
