BASHKAN OF GAGAUZIA ISSUES AN ULTIMATUM TO MOLDOVAN AUTHORITIES TO RESUME THEIR WORK AS PARLIAMENTARY WORKING GROUP

27 march, 2024

Bashkan of Gagauzia Evghenia Gutul issued an ultimatum to the authorities of Moldova in order to resume the activities of the working group of the Moldovan parliament and the People's Assembly of Gagauzia (NSG). As reported by INFOTAG, Gutul wrote about this in the conclusion to the draft resolution of the NSG on the resumption of cooperation between the NSG and the Moldovan parliament.

The draft was proposed by NSG deputies Alexander Tarnavski and Mihail Jelezoglo. They believe it is necessary to resume the work of the working group as it will contribute to solving the problems faced by the autonomy.

In conclusions, Gutul stated that the joint working group of the parliament and the People's Assembly acted “only to divert attention"” and ”deceived” both representatives of Gagauzia and the country's European partners. According to Evghenia Gutul, since 2015, a number of “anti-Gagauz” laws and decisions have been adopted, and the working group has not contributed to overcoming disagreements.

In the document, Gutul wrote that in order to resume cooperation, Chisinau must fulfill a number of conditions, including: promptly issue a Presidential Decree approving the Head (Bashkan) of Gagauzia as a member of the Government; implement previously adopted decisions of the working group; restore the operation of all deconcentrated services in the ATU Gagauzia territory; bring Moldovan legislation into line with the provisions of the Law “Of the Special Legal Status of Gagauzia (Gagauz Yeri)”; appoint leaders of law enforcement agencies in the ATU Gagauzia upon the recommendation of the Bashkan of Gagauzia.
