REINTEGRATION BUREAU URGES TIRASPOL TO RESPECT DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE AND MOLDOVAN CONSTITUTION

27 march, 2024

The Bureau for Reintegration Policies has urged Tiraspol to "respect the Declaration of Independence, the Moldovan Constitution and the unanimous opinion of the international community." The Bureau made such a comment on Wednesday regarding "inadequate statements" of the region's leaders in the "public space."

Apparently, this refers to the statements of the Tiraspol leader Vadim Krasnoselsky, who, in particular, recalled last week that the declaration of independence of Moldova, which was adopted in 1991, declared invalid the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact of August 23, 1939 and the USSR law of August 2, 1940 "On the formation of the Union Moldavian SSR." Krasnoselsky declared that "all Moldovan laws on the so-called statuses of the left bank contradict the declaration of independence of the Republic of Moldova."

"There is no question of any autonomies. You must give up these territories. This is your obligation under the Declaration of Independence, which confirms the right of peoples to self-determination," Krasnoselsky emphasized.

The Bureau for Reintegration Policies reminded Tiraspol in its commentary that "the main goal of the negotiations is a comprehensive and peaceful settlement of the Transnistrian conflict in order to fully reintegrate both banks of the Dniester and consolidate the statehood of the Republic of Moldova within the internationally recognized borders."
