REINTEGRATION BUREAU REGRETS THAT TIRASPOL AUTHORITIES REFUSED TO PROVIDE ACCESS FOR CENSUS IN CORJEVO

29 march, 2024

The Bureau for Reintegration Policies has expressed regret that both the chief Transnistrian negotiator and Tiraspol's representatives in the Joint Control Commission "categorically refused to provide access and security guarantees" for personnel "to conduct the census in the territory of Corjevo commune and other settlements of Dubasari district not controlled by the constitutional authorities" of Moldova.

Commenting on the Transnistrian authorities' decision, the Bureau expressed the opinion that they had excessively "politicized the problem."

"This reaction only confirms that Tiraspol continues to maintain artificial barriers between the two banks of the Dniester and is set for constant confrontation with the authorities in Chisinau," the Bureau said.

Earlier, the Moldovan representatives in the JCC called on the Moldovan authorities not to obstruct the census enumerators and to ensure their safety during the census and housing starting April 7 in the settlements in the Security Zone, in particular in Corjevo.

However, the authorities of the region refused, emphasizing that Transnistria would not allow the population and housing census to take place on its territory. In their opinion, Corjevo is a suburb of Dubasari.
